Explore and learn the principles of healthy church ministry applied in a low-income urban context.

The ONE HOPE Weekender is a five-day trip which immerses church leaders in the principles of a healthy church ministry applied in the inner city context. While focused on low-income urban areas, the time is useful for churches of any context.

Speakers for the weekend include pastors at The Garden Church and pastors of likeminded churches in similar contexts, women's workers, and guests from 9Marks.

The Church is the Greatest Display of God’s Glory

Surprisingly, one of the biggest things many overlook in low-income church ministry is the church. The church, as designed by God, is a powerful force in any community.

  • Congregationalism

  • Membership and Discipline

  • Church Leadership

URBAN CONTEXT

The Greatest Poverty is not the Poverty of the Wallet, but the Poverty of the Word.

Our particular focus is understanding and applying healthy church principles in the inner city.

The context around The Garden Church is a low-income and working class urban neighborhood. ONE HOPE began as a ministry of TGC to help build additional churches in similar contexts. In the best of our healthy church ministry conversations, we don’t want to overlook the poor and neglect the same communities the world has neglected.

  • Addiction

  • Abuse

  • Poverty and Real Help

  • Intentional Living

TRAINING LEADERS

Weekender attendees will participate in an elders meeting (female attendees meeting separately at same time) and discuss pastoral work. In a context where, often, there will be minimal paid staff, training and utilizing good lay elders will be crucial to the work.

URBAN ISSUES

Attendees will discuss issues that face the urban environment such as addiction, trauma from abuse, and poverty. These conversations will be a series of short seminars with lots of questions and answers and dialogue.

IMMERSION IN MINISTRY

The benefit of a Weekender is to simply be immersed in a regular church ministry for a few days. There’s nothing fancy about The Garden Church. Just ordinary Christians, saved by grace, seeking to make disciples in the context. But we hope that this is what will leave you encouraged. There’s no secret weapon, you already have what it takes.
